Hazleton, Pa  Celebrates 150th Anniversary of City

Beginning June 30, 2007

City of Hazleton 150th Anniversary night of nostalgia "Remembering Our Centennial, 1957", kick off at the Knotty Pine Restaurant in conjunction with the Hazle Park Car Club - "A Night of Classic Cars and Curb Service", 4 to 10 pm.  Aslo "Canteen", hosted by the YM/YWCA along with WAZL radio.  Everyone is invited to attend and dance to the oldies from 8 to 10 pm.  Anyone in the touring mood can take advantage of the Vine Street Cemetery tours being presented at the cemetery ground.  Self-guided tours will be offered during cemetery hours from 8 am to 6 pm.  Guided tours will begin Saturday at 10 am and 2 pm.  Tours will also run Sunday at 2 pm, Monday at 10 am and 2 pm and Tuesday at 10 am.   The Anthracite Model Railroad Society's historic display will be open to visitors from noon to 5 pm on Saturday and Sunday, rear 1057 Peace St..  At 7 pm on Sunday "A Fanfare for the Common Ma" will be presented at the J.J. Ferrara Center for the Performing Arts on West Broad Street.  The program is meant to tell the story of Hazleton in words and music and is being sponsored by the Hazleton Philharmonic Orchestra and the Hazleton Liberty Bans.  On Monday, an interfaith service will be hosted by the Hazleton Ministerial Association at 7 pm.  The service will begin at the First Presbyterian Church, where a procession will get under way tot he Agudas Israel Synagogue and then to St. Gabriel's Church.  On Tuesday, a parade honoring veterans will be begin at 7 pm at Memorial Park and continue to Harmen Geist Stadium, where the city's annual fireworks display sponsored this year by Hayden Electric, will wrap up the evening and the anniversary observance.  All events are free an dopen to the public.
